Peter Halley (American, b. 1953)
Born in New York, Peter Halley is an abstract artist and printmaker known for his often bight, geometric expressions of space and form. In 1971, he graduated from Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, where he was deeply influenced by Joseph Albers’ color theory. He attended Yale University in 1975, later receiving his MFA from the University of New Orleans. Considered a Neo-Conceptualist, Minimalist artist, Halley, in his early years as an artist, experimented with Day-Glo, a fluorescent paint. From 2002 to 2011, he served as the Director of Graduate Studies in Painting and Printmaking at the Yale University of Art. Major public collections that hold his work include the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Tate in London, and the Guggenheim Museum in New York.
