Description

A pair of unusual baggage tags from the Philadelphia Reading & New England Railroad. Both are from the western side of the Hudson River just past the Poughkeepsie Bridge. (1) strap check " two openings from Clintondale (2) passenger receipt " smaller with one opening from Highland. The Philadelphia & Reading Railroad made an attempt to enter the New England market to sell coal at the end of the 1800s. The "New England" Division was what would become part of the New Haven system in later years. Note that this is not a matched pair and the tags are from different locations but they would have similar mates.
