Early & Rare Carved & Polychromed Japanese Figure of Jizo Bosatsu. Japan 13th century Kamakura period. A polychrome wood figure of Jizo Bosatsu, standing on a lotus pedestal, dressed in a kesa, his breast is adorned with an intricate metal kyoshoku. His left hand is raised to hold the hojunotama (wish-granting jewel) and the right hand grasps a shakujo (the six-ring staff). The head is shaven, with a crystal byakugo inlaid at the centre of the forehead. Ht. 26".
