Description
Heavy cast brass disk measuring 8" in diameter, 10 mm thick. Jointed suspension ring allows for bi-directional movement. Molded throne and rotating adilade with tapered indexes. Pinnules are set 2.75" apart. The limbs of both upper quadrants are graduated. The bottom two quadrants are incised but not graduated. The ballast carries 1.5" inscribed circle and 1555 date. Also included are two publications: Sotheby & Co. 'Catalogue of A Highly Important Islamic Spherical Astrolabe and Other Scientific Instruments', dated 1962, under plastic wraps. Together with 'The Planospheric Astrolabe' published by the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, 1976. ISBN 0950176457. Cover is protected by plastic wraps.
