Our example is well formed solid cast bronze exterior plaque, and was used for a brick or stone exterior store sign, close to the front door, to denote the best brands for sale. This particular emblem was seen in newspaper ads in the latter 1910s, and the casting has exceptional depth and the black over-coat is found in the mounting bolt holes,validating OEM production, and NOT A REPRODUCTION! This sign was most often seen on the front wall of elegant mens stores in Chicago (the founding city), New York, Philly, and Boston. The weight is 7#, measuring 13.25 x 9.5 x .5 inches thick. The Florsheim Shoe Co. was founded in 1892 and survived until being sold in 1953. This is a truly valuable and RARE advertising piece of history, in wonderful period condition.
