Item Details
Description
WE SHIP! The AEAA is very pleased to present this gorgeous pre-1921 hand painted Nippon, (5) piece master berry set, professionally potted, and unmarked. Nippon era pieces without a national stamp, were only slated for the home market, and export to Germany / Austria, and England in lesser measure. Our example is a spectacular and ornate Nippon set, with exceptional scrolled gilded crown rims and gorgeous rose medallions, with hand beading over an emerald green ground. The tea roses are exceptionally brilliant & detailed. History records that during the Nippon era from 1891 to 1921 and beyond to ~ 1930, which encompassed both the Mickinley Tariff Act, and the equally ludicrous adoption of the American Import Act, requiring Japanese national stamps to be in English ala Japan (as though we were fooled by the word Nippon). During this time, about 15% of total production was for the Japan home market alone, with 30% exported to Germany, Austria & England, and about 55% to America & other lands, and these pieces were most often unsigned. The more Cobalt, and deep grounds + fantastic gilt accenting, usually denote the German / Austrian export. Being a non American export piece, actually makes it more Scarce than stamped production items, also likely making the mold form itself significantly rarer. Our master bowl sits 10.5 x 3.25 inches deep, and the (4) individuals are 5.5 in diameter, weighing 2# 10 oz., and are in excellent condition (see condition). This fine heirloom set is from the living estate of Ailene & Buddy Ford, respected, longtime dealers of valuable antiques.
Condition
XA - P54 - excellent condition (master bowl has shallow surface glaze spider on bottom - not into porcelain)
