The rank and file of the Los Angeles Fire Department in full uniform, each holding a US flag, assembled for the Preparedness Day Parade, June 14, 1916. The Preparedness Day Parade was to protest President Wilson's policy to not prepare for involvement in the first World War. The Preparedness Movement was a national campaign led by Leonard Wood and Theodore Roosevelt, who sought to strengthen the U.S. military after the outbreak of WWI. More than 60,000 Angelenos took part in the march. Signed on the reverse by one of the attendees, Charles B. May, with notes as to his location in the photograph and stating that he made the frame.
