Description
Britain, reign of King Richard I, better known as Richard the Lionhearted, ca. 1157 to 1199 CE. Extremely rare gilded iron and bronze heraldic badge. Probably given as an award or honor to a knight or other nobleman, it clearly shows the three lions of his official Coat of Arms. Richard the Lionhearted was often mentioned in literature including Robin Hood. Two piece construction with upper swizzle with two insertion tangs, supporting a shield-shaped badge with 3 lions in low relief, small amounts of original gilding still evident. An extremely rare piece of ancient English history! Custom stand. Size: 2-1/4"H medal itself + custom stand.
