Roman Empire, Severus Alexander, ca. 222 to 235 CE. Silver coin shows bust of emperor looking toward right. Reverse side shows Virtus standing right, holding spear and shield. Ancient Roman coinage provides us with an excellent insight to daily life and politics, many coins are inscribed with slogans from the current emperor or politician who decided to mint the coin, serving as a means of mass communication and propaganda to the masses.
