Description
Mexico, ca. 1875 CE. Small tin retablo depicting San Benito De Palermo set into a tin nicho - decorated frame. San Benito, also known as Benedict the African, The Moor, or The Black, was a monk and Italian saint born in Sicily in 1524 near Messina in San Filadelfio, so he sometimes called San Benito San Filadelfio, and died in 1589 in Palermo. The retablo is set into a tin and glass nicho with solar ray decorative top and hinged glass door. Size: 7-1/8"H.
