Description
China, ca. 18th century CE. Large dadao (literally "big knife") made of iron and wood. The dadao was made for close combat and executions. They were based on agricultural knives and featured broad blades, long hilts meant for two-handed use, and a weight-forward balance. This fine example is made of iron and wood, with loop of iron at the end of the hilt and a smaller ring (presumably for hanging) at the base of the hilt. Size: Measures 34"L (86,4cm) in total; blade measures 21"L (53,3cm).
