Description
89. Ivory Three Stallion Heads Cane-Chester hallmarks 1913-Large and fine grained Opera shaped ivory handle carved with three stallion heads at the front and a hoof at the back. The stretching shape of the horse heads and the treat of the detail including the back falling manes suggest action and speed. Dark Cocobolo shaft with wide and finely engraved silver collar with large initials and date “21:4:24” and Chester hallmarks 1913 and a stag horn ferrule. Everything a refined collector could want, this cane with broad appeal survived intact and is praised by age and careful use. It is also representative of the great interest for the equestrian sports in the glorious and carefree days of that period and an unassuming testament to functional cane art inextricably associated with gambling. H. 4 ½” x 1 ½”, O.L. 36 ¾”-$1,500-$2,000
