Item Details
Description
The following treasure is from the living estate of Ailene & Buddy Ford; noted dealers and lifelong collectors of exceptional antique & vintage heirlooms. The Ford estate presents highly valuable items from a diverse group of genres, 95% + in excellent condition. This exquisite estate has something for every eclectic collector! xxxxxxxxxxx. The AEAA is exceptionally proud to showcase this exquisite proper match Mt. Washington / Pairpoint brides basket. Our fantastic combination is from the early 1890s, perhaps in 1894, when the $1 merger occurred. The bowl represents a splendid cased internal pink peach over Opal glass with brilliant exterior flowers and lovely inside white blossom accents. Our bowl has a handsome lightly crested double crimped rim, and is quite deep. The footed Pairpoint stand has wonderful pine cones + leaves, and the base is well decorated. It carries the proper lined P in diamond stamp & Quadruple Plate designation validating its age. The bowl is 9 x 4 inches deep, while the stand is 10 x 5.5 x 10.5 tall, both weighing 4#. The bowl is excellent, with the stand VG, with some tarnish. xxxxxxxxxx. Among the best glassware ever produced in America, in England, or on the continent, were items lovingly made by Pairpoint. Founded in 1837 in South Boston as the Mt. Washington Glass Company, Pairpoint is the oldest operating glass works in the country. Examples of Pairpoint timeless designs can be found in the decorative arts collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. In 1880, not long after The Mt. Washington Glass Company moved from Boston to New Bedford, Ma. it merged with Pairpoint Manufacturing – a silver and metal works company founded by Thomas Pairpoint, the world-recognized British silversmith and designer. The new Pairpoint Company began designing extraordinary pieces, with some of the most beautiful metal and glass compilations in history, such as their fabled Bride’s baskets & pickle castor sets. From the early 1900’s into the 1920’s, both formed & cut, plus colored glasses were prized possessions, and the roraring twenties era, patined cast metal base with reverse painted shade electric lamps are legendary, with the Puffy line bringing tghousands of dollars at sales & auctions. From the New Bedford Glass Works ca. 1866-1868, and the transition into the Mt. Washington Glass works from 1870-1894, Pairpoint maintained its position as the finest innovator in American Glass. On July 14, 1894, for the sum of $1, Mt. Washington Glass became part of Pairpoint Mfg. By the end of WW I, Pairpoint had introduced many gorgeous translucent & opaque colors including, Amethyst, Burmese Glossy, Cobalt blue, Flambo (varied opaque stems) Gold Ruby, Lincoln green, and their version of Amberina – Rose Amber.
