The AEAA is very pleased to present this beautiful pair of ca. 1910 Philip Rosenthal dark green, gilded portrait transfer plates. The transfers are of expected Rosenthal quality, and both are in excellent condition, weighing 1# 8 oz. xxxxxxxxxxx. Philip Rosenthal founded the Philip Rosenthal Co. in 1879 and operated it as a family business, shortly thereafter moving his porcelain painting operation in Werl (North Rhine-Westphalia) to Selb in Bavaria, where he took residence in the Castle Erkersreuth. By 1884, the Rosenthal China Company had become well respected as a decorating studio, building the company by buying white ware porcelain blanks primarily from the established Hutschenreuther Co. Subsequently, using patterns developed by his wife, Maria, Philip opened his first production shop in Asch, Bohemia in 1891, and in 1897, founded Bauer, Rosenthal & Co. in Kronach, Bavaria. By 1900, Philip was able to pull all the various Rosenthal entities under one roof, with the name Porcelain Factory Philip Rosenthal & Co. The Rosenthal Empire continued to grow with the acquisitions of Porcelain Factory Marktredwitz Thomas & Ens in 1908, the Jacob Zeidler & Co., Railway Station, Selb, Krister Porcelain Manufactory of Waldenburg, Silesia in 1921, the Porcelain Factory Thomas of Sophienthal in 1928, and finally the Porcelain Factory Waldershof of Waldershof, Bavaria in 1936. In 1939 the company changed to Rosenthal AG porcelain, and still exists to this day.
