18TH C SAMPLER - Poetry and Menagerie Sampler in silk on fine linen, by Betsey Willett, aged 9, dated 1790, with cat and dog, lamb and deer, exotic birds, butterfly and moth, floral urns and vine blossom border. The poem reads "Behold with candour you my Friends, With pleasure my endevour view, My Works Began Brough to an End, And for inspection brought to you. With Gratitude Your Name I'll Praise, And thank the Lord for your Dear Sake, Since you my interest Seek & Rise, That I in Homesty may keep." In vintage lemon gold roped frame, under glass. OS: 14 1/2" x 13 3/4", SS: 12 1/2" x 11 3/4". Old repairs at bottom.
