Donegani (Emilio, engineer, fl. 1884-5) [Journal of the engineering expedition along the Bermejo river in the Gran Chaco region in Argentina], autograph manuscript, in Spanish, 107pp., 45 watercolour maps of the Bermejo river and a tracing map of St Bernard of Vértiz settlement, browned, some foxing in places, original green morocco, gilt spine, spine dulled and rubbed, 8vo, Buenos Aires, 1884-85. Expedition along the Bermejo river in 1884/5, part of the pacification campaign of the Gran Chaco under the orders of General Benjamin Victorica, Minister of War, ranging from the Paraguay River basin and the lower Pilcomayo to the borders of Santiago del Estero and Salta. The fifth Scientific Commission under the command of Francisco Host's left Puerto Bermejo on the Paragay river on the 14 October 1884 and reached ccamp in Colonia Rivadavia on 4 January 1885. The journal includes records of botanical, geographical, topographical, hydrographical and meteorological observations of the region.
