Description
A Sumerian carved stone head of a bull, early 3rd Millennium BC, with curved horns atop the head and incised decoration on either side of the snout. The base of the neck rounded, presumably to be fitted into a body of another material. A triangular patch on the forehead, the eyes and the nostrils are indicated with inlays in black and white stone, the sides of the mouth indicated by two deeply grooved lines. L: 3 in (7.6 cm). Some chipping to the left side of the head and base of the neck. Light deposits throughout. Mounted on custom base. Ex English private collection.
