Description
20th century AD. A mandau sword used by the Orang Ulu of East Borneo comprising a thick D-section single-edged blade with brass inlaid patterns to one face, copper-bound bone grip with notch detailing, plumes of hair; wooden scabbard with coloured cord and hide binding; with the accompanying langei puai knife, a short iron blade set in a long wooden grip, with hide scabbard, bead dangles and hair plumes. 1.1 kg, 54-78cm excluding plumes (21 1/4 - 30 3/4"). Ex Buddle collection; acquired 1990s. [2]
