Renaissance Revival Desk by Valentino P. Besarel carved with full figure cherubs, panels carved in relief. The side drawers slide outward, and the small center drawers utilize the chin on the lion mask as their pull. Candle holders offered by full figure carved cherubs. All surmounted by still another full figure of a Putti with feather pen. Desk is of demilune shape, centered by a locking cabinet. This desk belonged to Harold L. Ickes of the prominent Ickes family. Harold served under Franklin D. Roosevelt as Secretary of Interior. While sustaining the longest tenure of anyone to hold office, he was responsible for implementing much of FDR's "New Deal". The desk was purchased in Italy in the early 1900s
