Description
After Franz Bergman (Austrian, 1898-1963). "Erotic Sarcophagus", cast and patinated bronze, apparently unsigned. A metamorphic erotic sarcophagus in two parts, the standing sarcophagus with allover mottled verdigris finish and incised traditionally mannered decoration to exterior including Egyptian hieroglyphics and a stylized human face and arms crossed at chest, the hinged door opening to reveal a polished bronze figural female nude with chin length hair wearing a headband with cobra head to front with her chin facing slightly down, her arms crossed over her full bosom, and slender legs extending down to feet meeting at center upon a flaring round base, the whole to an integral rectangular black plinth. Overall approximately 32" tall, 10.375" wide (closed), 9" deep.
