Description
Rufino Tamayo (Mexican, 1899-1991), "Mujer con Sandia (Woman with Watermelon)", circa 1950, color lithograph on paper, pencil signed lower left margin and numbered in pencil lower right margin "70/200" lower right. Abstract figural drawing of a seated person holding a slice of watermelon in the foreground. The area around the figure is illuminated with vibrant colors. Framed approximately 21 1/4 in. x 16 1/2 in. Sight size approximately 18" x 22.5". Provenance: Accompanied by Weintraub Gallery, NY invoice, dated Feb. 5, 1975.
Condition
Work has been examined out of frame. Laid down on illustration board. Work with deckled edges on all sides. Blind stamp lower left reading "GUILDE DELA GRAVURE". Toning to sheet and evidence mat burn. Abrasions to sheet from earlier hinging tape that is no long present. Inconsistent discoloration to margins. No other signs of damage, loss, or repair.
