Item Details
Description
Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Olmec, ca. 1500 to 1200 BCE. The Olmecs exhibited an extraordinary command of this extremely difficult to carve medium. Olmec jadeite objects such as this trapezoidal celt/axe form are unparalleled for the blue-green hues and natural veining in the stone as well as their remarkably symmetrically balanced forms and elegantly surface finish. This ceremonial celt, being of rare quality, is no exception! Custom, museum-quality stand. Size: celt itself measures 9-7/8" x 3"
