Large and fascinating Kumu peoples mask from The Congo, central Africa. Carved wooden mask with large open eyes and overall geometric form, accented opposing quadrants of red and white pigments, with large, well balanced nose, and toothy mouth set in an aggressive grimace. Measures 20 x 9 inches. Previously in the Collection of Mr. Jean Pierre Hallet, famed collector and author of many Books, and the founder of the "Pygmy Fund".
Condition
Stress fracture in chin, otherwise well worn but intact.
