Description
A mummified bird, Graeco-Roman, c. 2nd Century BC-2nd Century AD, most likely an ibis, H: 15 in (38.2cm). Ibises were one of the most commonly mummified animals, and were likely mummified in mass production as sacrifices to the god Thoth. Ex Dorset, England private collection formed by the previous owner\'s grandfather who worked for a `telegraph` company in Egypt in the 1920`s. and had been in the family`s possession since then.
