Description
Pair of Edwardian Polychrome Armchairs, ca. 1900, in the Sheraton style, each with a stepped crest above a caned splat flanked to either side by an "X", joined by high arms on bulbous uprights to the cushioned caned seat, raised on tapering circular legs ending in bulbous feet, h. 35".
Condition
In overall good condition, with considerable rubbing to the polychromy, and scattered inpainting to the line painting. Shrinkage, wear and minor repairs consistent with age and use. The ground is a matte black. Upholstery is in good condition. One cushion exhibits a small dark spot, presumably an ink stain. The cushion is reversible and the verso does not exhibit stains. The caning of one seat appears to be a later replacement. The other exhibits some sag and a break in the cane at one perimeter edge, but appears to remain functional.
