Black counterpart to the standard Who's Who in America, first issued in 1927. This last issue, published on the eve of the modern Civil Rights movement, includes many future notables (Adam Clayton Powell Jr., Thurgood Marshall, Ralph Metcalfe, Benjamin O. Davis, Jr.) but also has a few striking omissions - like Martin Luther King, Jr.
