Description
PERMIAN REPTILE TRACKS
The Coconino Formation in Arizona is a sandstone unit formed from the arid desert of the region 280 years ago, famed for its well-preserved trace fossils, such as the trackways offered here, presumed to be from Cheilichnus sp., an ichnogenus known only from such traces, and surmised to be some sort of pre-dinosaurian reptile. This is the negative cast of its small but distinct tracks, in a pale salmon matrix plaque measuring 22 inches wide.
