Description
The AEAA is pleased to offer this nice trio of antique & vintage hand decorated porcelain pieces. Our first is a marvelous medium sized English Edwardian era (1905-1915) flow blue floral transfer sauce ladle. Though unsigned, as were many ladles, we believe the workmanship of our piece to be the quality of Ford & sons (see history below). We also have a very nice 1980s Fitz & Floyd gilded leaf nappy, and a handsome Charles Field Haviland Limoges, unique cigar ashtray, with both the CFH potting & decorators marks. Measured for reference, the nappy is 7.25 x 1.75 inches tall, and our three pieces weigh 1#. xxxxxxxxxxxx. Ford & Sons Ltd. had its beginnings as Whittingham, Ford & Co at the High Street Potteries of Burslem, Staffordshire, England, in operation from 1868 to 1873. In 1876, the company moved to its eventual permanent home at Newcastle Street, Burslem, operating under the name Whittingham, Ford & Riley. From 1882 to 1893, the growing company took the name Ford & Riley, then Ford & Sons in 1893 to 1908, with the Ltd. designation added in 1908, and continuing until 1938. Ford & Sons made a primary mark on the English semi porcelain flow blue industry, with some of the finest Art Nouveau blue and black transfer patterns in the era from 1893 until the 1920s. Their patterns are highly collectible and ornate.
