Description
Neoclassical silver creamer, oblong form with rounded corners and mid-rib molding, band of Greek Key design at upper rim, the squared handle decorated with a band of laurel leaves, atop four ball feet. Marked "Ster - Ameri - Man" and "Chaudron's & Rasch" in banners (Jean Simon Chaudron and Anthony Rasch, working Philadelphia, 1798-1820). Note: the Ster-Ameri-Man mark is an abbreviation for Sterling, American Manufacture - one of the earliest known instances of a quality mark being used on silver made in the United States. After the partnership dissolved, Rasch moved to New Orleans. Monogrammed JCD to SMD. 4-1/2" H, 8.06 oz troy. Circa 1810. Provenance: Private Arkansas Collection.
