Description
ALEXANDRIA, VIRGINIA COIN SILVER CASE SPRING LANCET / BLEEDER, case with reeded banding at top and around edges, sliding cover marked "I.ADAM." in a rectangle for John Adam (1775-1848), opposite side set with three screws and crosshatched button trigger. Circa 1820. 1" x 2" overall.

Provenance: Property of a Shenandoah Valley of Virginia private collector.
Catalogue Note: Silver lancets are extremely rare. Only one other example marked for John Adam has been recorded. It is illustrated in Hollan - Alexandria Silver, p. 113 and was sold by Jeffrey S. Evans (T/A GVA) from the Mac & Dolly McKenney Collection, March 24, 2007, lot 204. The same auction contained an unmarked example (lot 205) that was identical to the lancet offered here and was at the time thought to have been a product of Adam's shop.
