WINCHESTER AREA, SHENANDOAH VALLEY OF VIRGINIA PAINT-DECORATED WINDSOR SETTEE, mixed woods, featuring tablet-form crest rail, shaped plank seat, and ring-turned legs joined with box stretcher. Old, possibly 19th century, green-painted surface with black and gilt highlights. Descended in the family of the original owner. Second quarter 19th century. 33 1/2" H, 16 1/2" x 78" seat.
Provenance: Property of an Albemarle Co., VA lady.
Catalogue Note: The present Windsor settee descended in the family of Captain Edmund Lee Hoffman, CSA. Who served under "Stonewall" Jackson. After the war he owned a general store in Bunker Hill, WV and served in the first Legislature of the newly formed State of West Virginia.
Provenance: Property of an Albemarle Co., VA lady.
