declaration of his deeds and power, on a large cuneiform clay barrel [city of Larsa, Ancient Sumer (near modern Sankarah, Iraq), 1785-78 BC.] Clay barrel, with a flat base and rounded top open at centre, outer surface area completely filled with a laudatory first-person declaration of Sin-Iddinam's power, the building of the Ebabbar (temple to the sun-god Utu, whose cult centred on the city of Larsa), the restoration of other temples of gods An, Enlil and Nanna in thanks for granting a reign of peace, the establishment of clean water for the city through re-digging of the Tigris, shoring up its banks and re-routing its course (listing the wages of each worker in this enterprise), three sections with small chip missing, another with a loss of approximately 25mm. by 35mm. with a few cracks radiating away (perhaps from being struck when discovered, but all stable), overall good condition, approximately 135mm. long and 100mm. at widest point; with typed translation of contents From a UK collection, and acquired from them by the present owner several decades ago. Sin-Iddinam was the son of Nur-Adad, and ruled the crucial Sumerian city of Larsa from 1778-85 BC. The annals record that he campaigned against the kingdoms of Babylon, Ibrat, Malgium and Eshnunna, and at its height, Larsa ruled over between 10 and 15 other kingdoms. Sin-Iddinam is known chiefly for his public works (as on the present barrel).
