Condition:

The serigraph in colors with embossing bears small defects and minor color traces at the edges. The sheet is faintly wavy and mounted to a mat at three spots on the reverse. The overall condition is good. The frame is in good condition with only slight signs of use. The image measures 43.8 x 31.5 cm, the sheet 57.1 x 43.8 cm. The framed dimensions are 68 x 56 cm.

Ert (1892-1990)

Born as Roman Petrovich Tyrtov in St. Petersburg in Russia, Ert moved to Paris in 1912, where he studied painting at the Acadmie Julian with Ilya Repin. There he adopted the pseudonym Ert, after the French pronunciation of his initials RT. In 1915 he began to collaborate with the fashion magazine Harper's Bazaar, for which he created over 200 titles illustrations until 1935. Furthermore Ert designed stage costumes and sets for revues and shows in Paris and New York. Some Hollywood movies, ballets and operas were equipped by him, too. Later, he also created print editions and bronzes. Erts works are hold in major museums such as the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. (fea)
