Rare #1650 J.O. Bass Spurs.
Original and rare maker-marked No. 1650 J.O. Bass spurs. 2-inch straight shank and 8-point, 1 3/4-inch rowels. Fine, matching engraved silver overlays over 1-inch bands. Engraved silver dome on swinging buttons. Off side on one marked: NO. 1650 / MADE BY / J.O. BASS / TULIA. TEX. Fine old Crescent black leather straps adorned with 9 nickel buttons. Square buckles .
According to Martin and House in their "Bit and Spur Makers InThe Texas Tradition", (page 64) J.O. Bass products are known for quality and unique markings. In a time when few makers marked their work, Bass meticulously stamped the off side of the right spur with the Tulia address. His customers included Texas Rangers. c1910.
