Jay birds with oak leaves and acorns, having blue matte glaze, marks on both include impressed Rookwood flame logo with Roman numeral "XXVII" for date 1927, shape #2829, no apparent artist's signature, approximate height 5 1/2" and rooks, decorated by William P. McDonald, having buff high glaze, each has figure of a rook facing to the right in front of leaves and berries, marks include impressed Rookwood flame logo with Roman numeral "L" for date 1950, shape #2275, signed on back with artist's impressed monogram, approximate height 5 1/2".

Both have been professionally restored, one with repair to front corner and bird's crest and head, and has a stray color mark on the back; the other has repairs to crest, head and area behind the head; both rook bookends are heavily crazed, one
