Description
A Farquharson & Wheelock pink and gold brocaded satin evening gown, 1910-12, labelled to the waist stay '3 East 47th Street, New York', with boned inner silk corset, wrap-over bodice panel with tulle infill, and diagonal drape to the trained skirt, the fabric woven with large floral palmettes, bust approx 81cm, 32in, waist 56cm, 22in Provenance: The Estate of Frances Carroll Brown, granddaughter of American copper magnate Marcus Daly.
Condition
Good condition. Tulle infill at front of bodice is disintegrating, inner chiffon armhole lining is torn. Inner corset silk is generally good, exterior satin is good overall and the gold threads are lustrous, fabric is superb. Narrow band of pink silk lining at edge of skirt hem has perished.
