Description
A pair of glacé leather pumps and two single shoes, circa 1865, the sole of the blue trimmed shoes stamped 'Mayer, Paris', all trimmed with silk ruffles and fine chain stitch embroidery, the pink pair with silk covered low wedge heels, the longest 26cm, 10in (4) Provenance: The late Harry Matthews collection.
Condition
• Blue trimmed shoes: Shoe A – pleated ribbon is creased and a couple of folds have become loose, slight scuffing and wear at toe edge. Silk ribbon upper edging is worn in places particularly around the heel area. Glacé leather is generally good. Silk insertions on toe have slight wear. Shoe B – slight fading to ribbon trim at front, slight wear to silk insertions on toe, ribbon edging is worn above heel area, brown leather is generally good.
• Pink pair – brown leather areas are scuffed generally. Upper edges of pink silk on heels are worn/rubbed. Pink pleated ribbon edgings are faded and worn at heel areas. Splits in medallion on toe on one shoe. Shoes have been heavily used.
