Description
Two pairs of Queen Victoria's black silk stockings and a pair of shoes also believed to have belonged to her, late 19th century, the stockings with ivory tops and toes, the upper edges knitted with large imperial crowns and VR; the grosgrain silk flat pumps with bows and jet adornments, 25cm, 10in long; together with a label stating that they had been sold by the V&A to raise money for the war effort! (6)
Condition
• Shoes: very worn at the toes and one with worn outside edges where the silk meets the sole, the other with wear at upper edge of heel.
• Stockings:
o A) cream upper edge has staining and 1cm split along the fold line, slight soiling to toe/heel areas, otherwise good
o B) 4 pinhead holes in cream upper area on one side and 2 holes on other wise also, slight soiling to heel/toe areas, otherwise good
o C) Cream upper is scattered with approx. 6 holes, otherwise good
o D) upper edge has been torn off, rest of stocking is good
