Brief Introduction of Jinyuan Cao
An Antiques Collector
Jinyuan Cao was born in 1921 and passed away in 2014 at 93 years old. He was born in Taishan Guangzhou and graduated high school from The First Middle School of Taishan. Mr. Cao liked Chinese culture from very young age. When he was in high school, he has keen interests in Chinese history, literature, and paintings. He was admitted to the Foreign Languages Department of University of Zhongshan with honors in 1938 and graduated in 1942. He loves ancient Chinese culture during his College years, especially paintings.
After graduating from college, he immigrated to United States with his families and operated a Chinese restaurant in Boston. Whenever he has holidays, he will go back to China, Taiwan Palace Museum, Beijing Rongbaozhai, and Shanghai Duoyunxuan to purchase and collect a large amount of paintings to carry out researches, and he wrote enormous amount of art literature.
Mr. Cao’s children didn’t share the same interest in Chinese culture as him because they were grown up in America. After he passed away, his children donated 95% of Mr. Cao’s collection to local museum and library in Boston based on Mr. Cao’s last wishes and they commissioned Mega Auction to sale the remaining 5% of the collection by auction for inheriting Chinese culture, hoping more people would know gain understanding of Chinese culture.
