The filigree side table was created in the middle of the 17th century in France. Known as a guéridon are narrow tables, often with circular top, which are supported by one or more columns with mythological figure décor. These were created after African, Egyptian, or based on Greek models. While often serving modest purposes, such as to hold a chandelier or a vase, the guéridon always considered as an elegant, courtly piece of furniture. After the death of Louis XIV, hundreds of them can be found in Versailles, and within a generation, the diverse forms had arisen. The simpler works were made of wood. But almost any material from which furniture can be made, such as gold-plated bronze, silver and enamel have been used for their construction.

Condition:

The table is in good condition according to the age. The gilding is partially rubbed or shows small scratches. A minimal fissure can be found on the apron. The top shows a small warping in the veneer. The dimensions are 102 x 42 x 42 cm. (bde)
