Second half 19th century, 446 x 294 cm, North West Persia, Azerbaijan
In the white-ground field decorated with floral chains, a huge blue shield form with wide red outlines encloses a small sand-coloured star-shaped medallion with attached convoluted forms of zoomorphic appearance. Quarter sections of a medallion adorn the spandrels. Due to their composition and distinctive style of drawing, Bakhshaish rugs are easily distinguished from the Heriz group. – Signs of wear in the pile, several darned areas and small tears, creases, slightly damaged sides. Both ends somewhat reduced.
