This France Limousin region pottery originally made porcelain dishes. The factory was built on the banks of the Vienne River so that wood could easily be brought to fuel the kilns in which the porcelain was fired. It was operated in turn by Ernest Duchatelet (1865), Mr. Léobon (1871), Paul Lacroix (1876) and Henri Barjaud de Lafond (1877). In 1897, brothers Jules and François Vultury (Vultry Freres) bought the factory and operated it themselves. In 1904, the business was bought by Frédéric Legrand, Charles Alary and Jean Joquel, to become the Legrand, Alary & Joquel Company. From then on, Legrand was part of the company name. In 1911, the company name changed to Betoule Legrand & Co. After WW I in 1919, the company entered into partnership with Jean Mondot, an artisan from Limoges who had started a small factory in Exideuil making electric switches using porcelain and boxwood. By the end of the 1920s, manufacturing abandoned porcelain table-ware in favor of electrical equipment. At that time, before the appearance of plastic, porcelain was the best available insulating material for a myriad of applications. Following WW II in 1949, following a factory fire, the plant concentrated exclusively on electrical wiring devices such as switches and sockets.
