Item Details
Description
We are very pleased to present this custom Limoges factory artist hand painted Pheasant on the wing wall plaque, by the respected artisans at Flambeau China. Our example features both the green White Ware torch + the over-glaze factory decorating stamp. Both were used between 1900 & 1914, PLUS, the Pheasant is signed by noted Flambeau artist, Raoul. This special Flambeau plaque carries the Gaston #1 White ware & #4A Green over glaze decorator’s mark, verifying its age. Antique Limoges retains high collector value, due to its many forms, vibrant colors and outstanding glaze, and this is especially true for Factory decorated, artist signed & custom display pieces. A Pheasant in the same plate mold can be seen on Page #121 of Collectors Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain 3rd Ed. by Ms. Mary Frank Gaston, and listed between $200 & $225. Our valuable wall plaque weighs 1# 6 oz. and sits 9.75 x 9.75 x x 1.25 inches deep. xxxxxxxxxxx. Flambeau China was in operation from the 1890s until World War I, with studio / factory locations in the Limoges area, and perhaps offices in the USA. Flambeau was initially known as a porcelain decorator, and used the initials L D B & Co., prior to approximately 1900 when porcelain production began, featuring the only green under glaze White Ware torch mark ever recorded for Flambeau. In contrast, there are (6) recorded Flambeau over glaze decorating marks up through WW I, but history chronicles two amazing paradoxes: the first deals with the fact that apparently 100% of all hand painted items were either Limoges factory or Bohemian contract (special mark) finished without the benefit of a sub contractors White Ware mark addition, and according to Ms. Gaston, not one documented example of American decorated Flambeau china has ever been verified! The second interesting fact is that Flambeau appears never to have sold short runs of ANY White Ware undecorated porcelain!!
