Description
The AEAA is proud to showcase this incredible early 1890s Japanese (Nippon Era) hand painted, Home Market only Kutani of the 9 Valleys marked giant tankard pitcher. This brilliant tankard is one of the busiest we have ever seen, with sculpted medallions, exceptional gilded highlights accenting the major floral theme. Our unique quatre-lobed form is finished in a dark green and maroon ground, and the red & gold base stamp represents the Meiji Era, Kutani of the 9 Valleys signature. This spectacular pitcher is post 1891, BUT as it does not have country mark, was never intended for export to the USA! ***** ECLECTIC COLLECTORS: please note the lower band cross in circle marks, that is the signature of the Prince of Satsuma! Our late 19th century Kutani porcelain treasure weighs 2# and measures 4 x 6.25 x 12 inches tall.
