Robustly designed, this large mass of the bull – one of Picasso’s most depicted animal subjects – is represented by the rounded forms of the back and legs. The addition of painted green tons around the black forms, and dots around the rim of the plate, add a sense of energy to the work.
Executed in 1952, this terre de faïence plate is one of 500 copies produced by Madoura. This piece is inscribed Edition Picasso with the Edition Picasso and Madoura Plein Feu stamps on the underside of the plate. Lip possibly repaired, scuffs and chips on base, customary to object. Otherwise good condition.
