This portfolio of 5 graphics is from the Russian artist and sculptor Leonid Sokov. The first one shows ‘Marilyn Monroe and a bear’, a ‘double eagle with hammer and sickle’, ‘two bear tracks with a golden, rising sun and hammer and sickle’, a ‘bear with hammer and sickle’ and on the fifth work ‘Marilyn Monroe and Stalin’.
The prints are each signed and dated lower right with ’Leonid Sokov 90’ und numbered lower left with ’9/99’, except of the first print, which is numbered with ‘9/98’. The graphics 4 and 5 show a label of a gallery on the back. The portfolio is overall in very good condition with hardly any signs of use. The second work is slightly shifted in the frame. The canvas dimensions are 57 x 78 cm.
Leonid Sokov (b. 1941)
Leonid Sokov was born 1941 in the village Mikhalevo, in the Kalinin (now Tver) region in the USSR. He studied from 1964-1969 at the University of Art and Industry. Since 1979 he lives and works in New York. Sokov is among others exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris or in the Pushkin Museum of Fine Art in Moscow.
