A facsimile of a rare seventeenth-century Ming Dynasty work (1644-45) that was a milestone in the development of Chinese and world color printing. The printer and compiler, Zheng-yan Hu (ca. 1582-1672) is credited with pioneering subtle printing techniques such as wiping the block for graded color effect and embossing. The elegant designs document the style and taste of the period, including motifs that appear in late Ming painting: rocks, bamboo, insects, landscape scenes, famous hermits of antiquity, The facsimile was produced by Rong Bao Zhai Studio, China`s foremost publisher of wood-block and scroll reproductions.
