Classic ES-150, Gibson's first model in the Electric Spanish line, launched in 1936. It became the first truly successful six-string electric guitar. The ES-150 designation came from the $150 price for the guitar, the matching EH-150 amplifier, and 15 foot cord. This model was made famous by Charlie Christian, said to be the first electric guitar soloist, and who later became a member of the Benny Goodman sextet. Many see Charlie Christian's adoption of the ES-150 as the beginning of the modern guitar and even America's modern music. This example has a metal tailpiece and single neck pickup. The guitar was assembled with a solid spruce arch top, solid maple back and sides, mahogany neck, and rosewood fret board. Pickguard stabilizer has oxidized. It has double sound holes, twin control knobs, 19 frets, and a rosewood fret board and bridge. There is severe crazing to finish throughout, significant scuffing and scratches on back, with wear to finish on the back of the neck consistent with considerable play. Includes a hardshell case with good padding inside.
