332. Original oil painting by George Hinke for Jolly Old Santa Claus. (George Hinke, 1950) George Hinke (1883-1953) was a German-born painter who came to the United States in 1923. After working in a printing shop, he eventually opened his own studio. From 1944 until his death in 1953, he was commissioned by Ideals Magazine to create works for publication depicting American small-town life, religious scenes and Christmas themes in his classic, nostalgic style. This image was first published by the magazine to accompany the story Jolly Old Santa Claus in 1961 and has been reprinted numerous times in book form, as well as on collector plates and calendars. Accomplished in oil on stretched 22 x 17 in. canvas. In fine condition. Special shipping arrangements will apply.
