Description
A traditional Chinese lacquered leather eyeglasses case, with a pair of folding sunglasses with tortoise shell frames. Flower and bird motif on case. China, late nineteenth century; unmarked. Dimensions: case (closed) approx. 4" L x 2-1/8" W x 1" H.; case (open) 7-1/4" W. Glasses (closed) approx. 2" L x 2" W x 5/16" H; glasses (open) 4-1/2" L x 2-1/4" W x 1/4" H.
Condition
In fair condition: the lacquered leather case has wear to paint, and it has stiffened with age, which does not make it possible to fully open the case (glasses are displayed on top of the case). Some scratches and wear to the lenses and frame of the sunglasses, and the metal bridge of the frame has pitting.
